HomeworkX Privacy Policy
The short version: HomeworkX keeps your homework list on your own computer. We do not collect it, we do not receive it, and we never sell or share it. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking.
This policy explains how the HomeworkX Chrome extension ("HomeworkX", "the extension") handles information. "We" and "us" mean yhile.com, the maker of HomeworkX.
What HomeworkX handles
- Homework you add yourself: the titles, classes, types and due dates you type or paste into the extension.
- Homework from Canvas: when you open your Canvas site (an address ending in instructure.com) while signed in, or when you press the Import button, HomeworkX reads your homework list (assignment titles, course names, due dates and links) from the Canvas page you are signed in to, on a website ending in instructure.com. It only reads this list. It does not read your grades, messages, files or password, and it does not change anything in Canvas.
- Your settings and themes: reminder times, quiet hours, the theme you chose, and any themes you make, including pictures, videos or fonts you upload to a theme.
Where it is stored
Everything above is stored only in your browser, on your computer, using Chrome's built-in extension storage. It is not synced to other devices by us and it is not uploaded anywhere.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, receive, store or have access to your homework or any other data on any server of ours.
- We do not sell your data or share it with anyone.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, cookies, advertising or profiling.
- We do not load code or fonts from other websites. The extension only talks to the Canvas site you are already on, to read your homework list, and to nothing else.
- No person at yhile.com can read your homework.
Why the extension needs its permissions
- storage: to remember your list, settings and themes.
- alarms: to check once a minute whether a reminder is due.
- notifications: to show you the reminders.
- Access to instructure.com pages: to read your homework list from your Canvas page, automatically when you open it (at most every 30 minutes) or when you press Import. It is used for nothing else.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received by HomeworkX will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, information is used only to provide the homework list and reminder features you see in the extension, is not transferred to anyone, is not used for advertising, and is not read by humans.
Children
HomeworkX is made for students. Because we do not collect any personal information from anyone, including children, there is nothing for us to collect from, store about, or share about a child.
Deleting your data
You are in control of your data. HomeworkX also automatically removes finished homework and homework that is more than a day past due every 2 days (you can switch this off in Settings). You can use "Clear finished" to remove finished items yourself, or remove the extension from Chrome to delete everything it stored. Clearing your browser's site data for the extension has the same effect.
Changes to this policy
If we change how HomeworkX handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
